Skin Tag Removal
Skin Tag Removal
Skin tags are small, benign growths of skin that dangle from the surrounding skin, connected by a thin stalk.
These growths can often be aesthetically displeasing and may emerge anywhere on the body, but the good news is that they are relatively simple to remove.
Dr. Valencia Clinic offers various removal methods, such as Minor Surgical excisions and Diathermy, both of which are associated with minimal discomfort.
Where can skin tags occur?
Skin tags manifest as small pieces of skin that seem to hang. They tend to develop in areas where clothing frequently rubs against the skin or where skin-to-skin friction is common.
Typical locations for skin tags include the eyelids, axillae (armpits), back, beneath the breasts, in the groin area, upper chest, and neck.
These growths are more prevalent in women, especially those experiencing weight gain, as well as in elderly individuals. While skin tags usually do not cause pain, they can become irritated when subjected to friction from clothing or jewellery.
Does skin tag removal leave a scar?
The excision method will result in a small, usually white or pink scar. In the case of Diathermy, there is a possibility of scarring and discolouration occurring.
What causes skin tags?
The exact cause of skin tags remains unknown, with both lifestyle and genetic factors likely playing a role. Some individuals develop skin tags without any apparent reason.
You are more likely to develop skin tags in areas where skin frequently rubs against itself. Certain health conditions are thought to increase the risk of developing skin tags, including:
- Overweight and obesity
- Diabetes
- Pregnancy
Skin tags can affect individuals of any gender, and they tend to be more common in older individuals. If you are pregnant and develop skin tags, they typically disappear after giving birth.
